KML Classes
So you have funny ideas all that time. Ideas that make you say, "You know, this would make a funny sketch." And yet, you're a little puzzled about how to go about doing it.

Believe it or not, we have a method to our madness that we can teach you. For the past few years, we've taught folks of all experience levels the fine, fun, and just plain weird art of sketch comedy. And if you are down to learn in a supportive environment, surrounded by people who share your interest in the peculiarities and oddities and absurdities of modern life in the Bay Area, this is the place for you.

Our sketch klasses are taught by Bay Area professionals and veterans of KML -- folks who've been writing & acting this kind of work for many years. You'll learn the fundamentals of sketch writing & acting, as well as techniques for developing your comedic voice.

Check out the courses below and pick what's right for you! Or, if you're not quite sure, go ahead and drop us a line: classes@killingmylobster.com

Whether you're honing your public speaking skills, adding to your acting repertoire, or prepping for your one-person show, we'll cover the most important bits, such as finding the joke, creation of comedic characters, exploring the importance of improv, timing, and keeping material fresh and alive in front of an audience. This class ends with an in-class performance, and promises to be a fun experience in a supportive environment.

SKETCH WRITING 2 Take your comedy writing skills to the next level with Writing 2! This six week intensive class will focus on in-depth workshopping of sketches and revision/refinement of original ideas to get to the ultimate goal: written, completed, polished material that will be performed by KML actors during a script-in-hand-reading in a venue outside of the classroom for friends and family to enjoy.

KML instructor Ken Grobe will impart much wisdom from his experience writing for several KML shows, short films, and lyrics to a full-length album released by his comedy/rock act, Pink Steel. Check them out on itunes!

Students will work on crafting quality pieces...and have fun doing it! Some topics of study will include: characters, writing sketch with limitations, and writing for specific actors.
