Hello faithful readers, It feels great to be back to the weekly grind here at KML.com. I was able to skate by due to the contract disputes that went on over the holiday break, but now that the checks are coming back in, the words are flowing. And the Bewl is watching the movies. Most recently I went to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Watching this by myself, I was kind of overcome at the end. I even felt a little sad, like the kind of sad that makes you get drunk and call old girlfriends. But instead I went home, had a crap and pounded some Ben and Jerry's Mint Cookie. Such a creamy treat. And I wrote this. Which is kind of like therapy for me. How does it make YOU feel?
Anyway - the point is, this movie is terrific. One of my new faves. If movies can be faves as soon as they come out. Also I am kind of annoying myself by using the word "faves". Yeeuck. Go see this. But if you go alone and you are feeling like you want something amazing and spontaneous to enter your life in the form of the most beautiful actress of all time, Ms. Kate Winslet, well have that Mint Cookie ready. Cause the performances are great, the direction and weird special effects are great, and I got to see Kirsten Dunst's funny little snaggle tooth pop out of her lip again.
In other news, since that movie is all about the elusiveness of memory, I recently lost my passport. I couldn't remember where it was, but as I was searching for it I found all these letters from my dad. He doesn't understand the iMac, but for years he writes handwritten letters on lined paper telling me about what happens back home. This week he sent me a real great one, so I typed it up. I think you'll agree that the apple falls not far from the tree. So I offer you this, from the original The Bewl.
3/9/04 Hi James, Yesterday was way too long - a real Bewley day for sure. While doing my domestic duties I noticed the center of the wringer in the washing machine was all gooped up with fabric softner. As I cleaned it I noticed some writing on the side - "add water to here". I'll try it their way and see how it goes.
Then it was off to the great outdoors to cut some limbs off the cherry tree. Since half the tree is on Anal's yard (editors note - my dad calls his neighbor Anal Bob) I only needed to trim two large limbs on our side. I set up the 6' ladder and cut the 6' limb. The ladder shifted in the dirt and started to fall, so I jumped off, rolling on to the chain saw still clutching in my left hand. The chain was still going, but I didn't get cut because I hit it on the flat. Then as I was telling myself what a dope I was, out loud of course, two chips of wood went into my mouth as I was cutting up the branches. I spit one out but had the other in my throat for hours. Then I went for the 8' limb. That one came down okay, but it took the bottom step off the ladder.
After I cleaned the yard, I decided to cut a new step for the ladder. I ripped a piece of oak and for some reason decided to measure one of the existing rungs to check the length needed. I cut my 24" piece to 15 1/2", carried it out to the garage and it was 5" short. How dumb was that not to see the ladder gets wider as it goes to the bottom!! I'll cut the 20" one later.
Then I went into the living room with my yogurt and popcorn lunch, turned on the T.V. and sat in my chair. After I ate I fell asleep. When I woke up, I must have thought I was sleeping while driving. I grabbed for the wheel and let out a yell. My heart was racing, I couldn't figure out what was happening. I was almost late for my guitar lesson so I got up, grabbed my sneakers and went to CVS, my lesson, and the chiropractor.
Later, Bill stopped by to drop off some Chevy parts he painted and took the front fender and other parts. Paula was teaching at the studio, so I heated up some dinner and headed back to the chairs. I thought one of my sneaker's laces was loose. When I looked to check - TWO DIFFERENT ONES ON! Grey one on the left, brown on the right. Bewley day starts at 12:01 am, ends 12 midnight! And I did all this with my new lenses I just got because a few weeks ago, I for some reason, thought the Go-jo with Pumice would do an excellent job cleaning my plastic lenses. Signs of things to come? Maybe. Normal - most likely.
Love, Dad
