Lord of the Rings   PDF  Print  E-mail
I went to see Lord of the Rings this week, AMC Van Ness.

I sat next to a woman who apparently thought the movie showing was Blade 2.
She was screaming RUN RUN!!! at the top of her lungs.
 And they did.
They ran so much in this movie I turned around to see if Prefontaine was behind me.
I mean enough. I go to the movies to relax. Trolls, wraiths, those weird bat spies/bird things, an avalance, the big ogre, run against time, run against evil, run run run run run. Three hours later I was panting and exhausted.

While I couldn't help drawing the obvious parallels to Willow (a truly terrible film that I watched while I was home in Philadelphia for Christmas) - especially the running part and the little people part. I wonder how big their terds are - wee little ones covered in fur, perhaps.

But it is sooo much better than Willow.

I loved Heavenly Creatures - it's on my program for an all day movie-athon which also would include Slingblade, The Apostle, Beloved, and Thin Red Line - and I loved the direction of this movie. Even with all the running I was still able to enjoy it and was left wanting more and found myself for the first time, wishing people made 9 hour movies.
(Note I did not think this after seeing Saving Silverman! I saw that show for free and I paid too much. Hey Silverman, I saved you something - a big ole scone of crap - get it while it's still fresh.)

I liked this one - I recommend it. Go see it. Everyone else has.
