SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 26, 2006–––Due to ticket demand and
great reviews, San Francisco comedy group Killing My Lobster (KML) has extended
the run of first-ever full-length comedic play—Bay Area native Peter Sinn
Nachtrieb’s Hunter Gatherers––through August 20 at San
Francisco’s Thick House Theater. Tickets–ranging from $20 to $25
[students get $5 off regular price with valid ID]–are on sale now at www.killingmylobster.com and at the
door on the night of the performance. Directed by Tracy Ward, Hunter
Gatherers is produced by Lisa Busby, Paul Charney, Sally Garbarini, and
Marc Vogl. The production is made possible in part by support from The
Fleishhacker Foundation, the Theatre Bay Area/New Works Fund, and The Tournesol
Project.
A
full schedule of extension dates is available below. Two of the added
performances are ‘pay-what-you-can’ nights: Wednesdays August 9 and 16. Monday,
August 14 is a special actor benefit performance. Please note: Liam
Vincent will be taking over the role of Tom from actor John Kovacevich for
a bulk of the extension dates. An acclaimed local actor recently seen in San
Jose Repertory Theatre’s touring production of Jane Austen’s Pride and
Prejudice, Vincent’s additional local credits include California
Shakespeare Theatre’s Henry IV, Marin Theatre Company’s Noises Off,
and Encore Theatre Company’s long-running production of Adam Boch’s Five
Flights.
A darkly comedic tale that
explores the primal urges that drive us all, Hunter Gatherers received
the highest rating from Robert Hurwitt of the San Francisco Chronicle,
who calls the show “exceptionally entertaining theater—an almost two hour laugh
riot” and “a major achievement for Killing My Lobster.” The production has also
been praised as “wickedly funny and wildly inventive” by the Contra Costa
Times, “a superb satire” by the San Francisco Examiner and “an
impressive first foray by the Lobsters into full-length play territory” by the SF
Bay Guardian. The play centers on Pam (Melanie Case) and Richard (Jon
Wolanske), a married couple hosting a special dinner party for their longtime
friends, Wendy (Alexis Lezin) and Tom (John Kovacevich). But what begins as a
celebratory gathering between beloved acquaintances soon erupts into a chain
reaction of unearthed secrets, pent-up feelings, secret rivalries, and sudden
urges. As the evening progresses, Pam, Richard, Wendy and Tom (who refer to
themselves as “the Fab 4”) question the hands that fate––and their respective
spouses––have dealt them. As they struggle to come to terms with their true
identities and ultimately reconcile with their spots in the food chain, they
take part in a series of hilarious and emotional confrontations, in addition to
an animal sacrifice, some illicit sex, sudden violence, Greco/Roman wrestling,
and some very bad dancing.
