There's still time to enroll in what is shaping up to be an awesome intermediate-level sketch comedy writing class, taught by KML co-founder Paul Charney. Sketch Level II begins next week! To learn more about it, read below...
Writing comedy other people find funny is hard, but writing and producing comedy YOU find funny is almost harder, and yet more important. Because without the latter, ain't no way you're gonna do the former.
Welcome to the world of Sketch Comedy. Killing My Lobster styles. We've brought you a few introductory classes in the fine art of sketch comedy writing. Now it's time to take it to the next level. In a 5-week intensive class taught by one of the cofounders of KML and beginning mid-May, students will hone and sharpen their comedic voices through realizing their own funny ideas. Also on tap: understanding and becoming familiar with the process of translating what they find funny... into what others might/will/can't refuse but to also find funny. [Click 'read below' for class schedule and more...]
Students will be in charge of writing sketches. Rewriting sketches
of their own as well as others. And leading sketches they've written through
rehearsals toward an invited showcase of those sketches at the end of the class.
Over the 5 weeks there will be 10 classes, as well as potential
rehearsal times with Killing My Lobster actors and actresses. Students
must come prepared to write. There's no way around that. If you believe
you do not have enough time for this intensive class then perhaps look
to the beginning class. That one is a lot of fun as well. The
goal is for students to leave with a better sense of how to make their
funny ideas/sketches come to life, by introducing a more intense
rewrite and production aspect to the class.
Ideally it is the next step for those who have taken the intro class or have some comedy writing experience on their own. Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7-10 pm, beginning May 20
Location: KML Headquarters, 2101 Folsom St (@17th Street), San Francisco
