KML Gets Reel: Line-Up   PDF  Print  E-mail

KML Gets Reel. It's a celebration of the first ten years of KML's short films. It's a party. It's also a fundraiser. It's not a lot of other things... but it is those first three things, no doubt.

It's happening Friday, May 16 at Intersection for the Arts. Great, you say, but what are the films being shown? And what are those films about? Read below for answers.

Sneak Preview!
Evolution: The Musical
38 min., created by Andrew Bancroft and Kenny Taylor

“South Park” meets West Side Story in this musical from the creators of KML Faces the Music. Evolution tells the story of The Beasties (a clan of humans who have recently evolved from primates) and The Blesseds (a self-righteous religious sect descended from Adam and Eve). When a brutal slaying brings about a holy turf war, all hell breaks loose and an unlikely romance throws a monkey wrench into the proceedings. Who will win? Who will lose? Is most of the cast really dressed in fur bikinis? Only one way to find out. ** Evolution is an official selection of the 2008 San Francisco International Film Festival. This is your only other chance to see this wholly original short film in the Bay Area!

Sneak Preview!
Orifice Visit

7 min., created by Melanie Case

A hopeful young woman visits a fertility specialist, only to receive a liberal dose of unconventional bedside manner. Featuring Melanie Case, Fontana Butterfield, and Jon Wolanske.

Strindberg and Helium

4 min. [multiple episodes]
Created by Milky Elephant and Erin Bradley & James Bewley

Morose dramatist August Strindberg meets his match: a pint-sized helium balloon wingman named “Helium.” A bizarre and hilarious series of adventures from KML and design studio and animators Milky Elephant.

V. Party
5 min., created by Michelle Dean

Just in time for the presidential election, political consultants Warren Dinkley and Susan Agby present a brand new political party, founded on an unlikely yet undeniably popular platform.

Muddy Brown Boot: The Series
4 min. [multiple episodes]
Written by Paul Charney

How can a single muddy brown boot change lives? Watch this series--created for Killing My Lobster's pop culture show, KML Pop! - and find out. Dirty. And rejuvenating.

Walking School
5 min., written by Eric Schniewind

“Jaywalking.” Does anyone understand what it is? Our velvet voiced narrator certainly does in this film that’s part ‘50s instructional video, part warning against the dangers of crossing 6th and Market against the light.

The International Language
4 min., written by Marc Vogl

The language of love sometimes has less to do with the unspoken flicker of attraction between two strangers than the ability of one man to translate another man’s needs at the hardware store.

AND MANY MORE SURPRISES!

Films, drinks, jokes, and a performance by KML Faces the Music composer Olive Mitra’s band Eggplant Casino. The night itself should be on film. And don’t forget the evening’s other big draw: a silent auction featuring great prizes from community businesses—available for a steal—as well as original auction packages created by Killing My Lobster.

Admission is just $10 and seating is limited! To purchase your tickets now, please click here. Thanks for your support and we look forward to laughing with you.
