During a break from a recent sweaty dance rehearsal, we sat down with some of the cast members and the director of our next sketch show, KML Hits Highway 101, and got them to answer a quick 5 questions about the show and its theme: California road trippin'.
Take a gander at their thoughts below. Name your 5 "must have items" for any road trip.
Director Todd Brotze: - Emo mix - Suntan lotion for the left forearm - Any Trader Joe's snacks - Some brand of sugar-water - Nun-chucks
Andy Alabran:
- The Ab Roller
- Steve Winwood cassette tapes
- Biore strips
- Silly Putty
- Tweezers
Christine Bullen:
- Mix tape
- Sour Patch Kids
- "road sodas"
- A magic 8 ball
- A rag soaked in Chloroform
Emily Morrison
- Sunscreen for my left, hang-out-the-window arm.
- Half-pack of Camel Lights. Or, in a pinch, mint snuff.
- An air freshener shaped like an animal but doesn't smell like one.
- Corn nuts by the bucket. Picante flavor, please.
- Urine jug. In dire straits, a 64-ounce Big Gulp will do.
2. What's the one place in California you have yet to visit but desperately want to explore?
Andy: Lake Tahoe.
Nick: Mount St. Helens... wait, that's in Washington.
Emily: My neighbor's pants.
Leslie Waggoner: rocketboatsf.com
3. You and your friends are taking a road trip and YOU are the driver.
Do you have any rules for the road you feel like imposing on your
passengers?
Nick: The person in the passenger seat must stay awake and talk to me.
The two times they fell asleep, I fell asleep one of those times and
almost hit a barrel then swerved nearly hitting a corvette, the second
time I fish-tailed on the icy roads of Ohio, nearly killing all four
passengers.
Leslie:
1.Pants optional for ME ONLY.
2. If someone falls asleep, it is your duty to videotape them with scathing commentary.
3. If you must sing along to the Amy Grant, please only stick to the melody. I've got the harmony covered, thank you.
4. Juice packs are a privilege, not a right.
5. If someone mixes up their verbs and nouns while playing "MadLibs", they will promptly be asked to exit the vehicle.
4. What was the best vacation you took with your family as a kid? (I mean... assuming there is one)
Todd: Road-trip-wise, was the trip from San Antonio (home) to Port Aransas, TX. We were met there by a hurricane.
Emily: Does it have to be with me family? There was that one time with the stranger and his candy. That sweet, sweet candy.
Leslie: My parents took my brothers and I to a beach house in Pajaro
Dunes every summer. My dad's favourite game to play with me was "I'll
Toss Pennies Off Of The Balcony And Into The Sand And You Find Them."
Then? Cruel. Now? Hilarious.
5. Finally if you had to give the show KML Takes Highway 101 a
motto--like how every state has a motto (California's being "Eureka (I
have found it)")--what would you nominate as your show
motto?
Nick: The show that has a three-hour dance rehearsal - twice.
Todd: “Roadkill!”
Christine: “Kismet!”
Andy: “Own Up To Your Farts”
Leslie: “Try Not To Be Afraid Of Nick Olivero”
KML Hits Highway 101 parks it at Zeum Theater Thursdays through Sundays, May 28 through June 14. Do not miss the staycation event of the summer. Grab your tickets now.
