A 5 year partnership, benefitting young writers

For the past 5 years, KML has partnered with 826 Valencia to teach youth sketch comedy writing classes, at no cost to the students or families. 3 years ago we further developed the program, which now culminates in a two week, fully staged public performance at PianoFight in San Francisco.

4 Weeks of Writing Workshops

Once a week for four weeks, experienced KML writers and instructors work with youth at 826, teaching them the fundamentals of sketch comedy writing. KML volunteers type up the kids' sketches, while the Head Writers assemble MadLibs-style musical numbers inspired by the sketches.

Seeing Their Work On Stage

Once the writing process is concluded, the pros at KML take the written sketches and stage them with KML actors in an annual public production of 826+KML=BFFs. The writers receive comp tickets for themselves and a parent, so they can see their comedic works come to life in front of a live audience.
