Freaked out craziness for the blackbelt cinephile
Saturday, March 30
New Langton Arts
1246 Folsom (@9th)
Midnight
We could not in good conscience unleash these particular pieces on the unsuspecting masses. But for those of you freaky cinegeeks who seek films a bit more challenging (dare we even say frustrating) and obtuse, we have compiled a special late-night program. Time and location TBA.
PROFESSIONAL PRESENCE
UPS
Super 8, 20 min
It's the question on everyone's mind: "How can I dress more professionally?" The United Parcel Service answered this question twenty years ago in this edutaining instructional video. [Shown in installments throughout the program]
FRICTION
Robert Ellman, Prague
DV, 40 minutes
We're showing 5 minutes of this bizarre series in the shorts program, but for the full, well, it's not really a story, but for the full experience of this tripped out "biopic" of renegade methamphetamine synthesist known as "Uncle Fester." We think this was originally created for a local TV series in Prague, but we're really not sure. Jesum this is weird.
SECOND THOUGHTS
Dennis Miller
Digital, 9 minutes
Abstract digital forms shitft into and out of one another until your brain melts.
THE PALAVER TRANSCRIPTION
Gad Hollander, London
Digital, 30 min
A "palaver" is a discussion. As a verb it is defined by the folks at Oxford as "profuse or idle talk." As transcribed by Gad Hollander it is an extremely taxing convergence of text, image, and monologue. Arguably this is the post-modern theory PhD course you never took, or perhaps it's just an intense exercise in keeping up with numerous hyperactive narrators working in multiple media to confuse the hell out of you. What's going on? We don't know. But whatever it is, it's, dazzling, dizzying and difficult.
