2022 In Person KML Class COVID Precautions and Protocols

Updated 6/27/22

The following are the official procedures in place as KML classes resume in person instruction in 2022. These steps may be updated at any time, and any changes should be considered effective immediately. Failure to adhere to the below guidelines could result in being dismissed from class for the day, or for the remainder of the session.

  • All students and staff must provide proof of vaccination AND boosters before entering KML HQ for class.

  • All students and staff must fill out a safety form upon their first arrival at KML HQ and agree to notify staff should they be exposed to COVID at any point during the 7 weeks of class, or in the 2 weeks following

  • The number of students in any class shall not exceed 10.

  • The windows must remain open for the duration of the class.

  • In the light of the recent surge in COVID cases, writing classes will require masks, and students in our acting classes must wear a mask when not rehearsing a scene, eating, or drinking.

KML Will Provide:

  • Sanitizing station equipped with hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, surface cleaner, paper towels, and extra masks should anyone need them

  • Both bathrooms will have plenty of hand soap and paper towels

  • Rapid-tests (1 per student per session) in the case of possible exposure from a student or instructor testing positive for COVID

What Happens If…

  • If a student is exposed to COVID and needs to take off more than one day of class, they will be transferred to a future session at no additional cost

  • Due to the new CDC guidelines regarding time in isolation, if a student tests positive for COVID, they must test negative before returning to class. If they have to miss more than one class before they manage to test negative, they will be transferred to a future session at no additional cost.

  • The rest of the students and instructors in that session will also need to test negative before coming back to KML HQ.

    • In the above instance, if a student is unable to obtain a test before the next week's class, they will be required to take the next week's class off to give them more time to get tested. If they already have an additional class absence, they will be transferred to another class at no additional cost.

    • In any of the above instances, in an acting class, their sketch will be re-cast or cut from the showcase, based on the discretion of the instructor.

  • Because of the nature of the acting class format and final showcase, if transfers cause the class to fall below 4 students, the showcase and class will be canceled and the students will be transferred to another class at no additional cost.

  • For the acting showcase: students be unmasked during their final performance. The audience, however, will remain masked.

  • If a writing instructor tests positive for COVID, they will conduct the class over Zoom. If they are too ill to teach, they will set up a class plan for a replacement instructor to step in for as many weeks as necessary. If an instructor is unavailable, the AD will step in.

  • If an acting instructor tests positive for COVID, they will set up a class or rehearsal plan for a replacement instructor to step in for as many weeks as necessary. If an instructor is unavailable, the AD will step in.
