What is it like to perform with KML?
Killing My Lobster works on a “pool” system. While many theatre companies audition on a show-by-show basis, once an artist is accepted into the KML pool, they are considered for shows without needing to go through an additional audition.
Directors and Head Writers work closely to assemble a show team that they want for their particular show vision. Once this is completed, the entire team—Director, Head Writer, stage manager, actors, writers, and Artist Support Advocate—meets to debrief about the requirements of the show.
All KML shows are completely original, written specifically for the cast that performs it! A typical show will have just 3 writer’s meetings, and just 9 rehearsals. It’s fast, it’s furious, and it’s fun.
In order to pull this off, actors in our pools need a very specific skillset. Our performers are trained actors who can bring truth and authenticity; they can be broad, silly, and absurd; they are professional and collaborative; and they can make big, specific, and committed choices in a short amount of time.
All of our shows are the product of the specific team that worked on it—and every member of that team contributes to its success!
