Write for KML

Artists who are accepted into our writing pool are considered for paid positions on our shows—creating top-quality sketch comedy in a professional writer’s room, to then be performed live onstage!

How to join

All of KML's writers come through KML Sketch Comedy Writing 1 & 2 classes. Even if you're an experienced writer, taking these writing classes is required to be a writer at KML. We work very quickly and within particular guidelines outlined in our curriculums, and skipping them would mean starting at a great disadvantage.

Taking KML Writng classes does not guarantee you a spot in the KML writing pool.

Over the course of a year many, many writers come through our doors and only a select few will enter our writing pool. All Sketch Writing 2 grads will receive a submission form they may fill out to be considered for KML’s writing pool.

What is it like to write for a KML show?

Killing My Lobster works on a “pool” system. Once an artist is accepted into the KML pool, they are considered for a show process without an additional application.

Directors and Head Writers work closely to assemble a show team that they want for their particular show vision. Once this is completed, the entire team—Director, Head Writer, stage manager, actors, writers, and Artist Support Advocate—meets to debrief about the requirements of the show.

KML shows are completely original, written specifically for the cast that performs it! A typical show will have just 3 writer’s meetings, and just 9 rehearsals. It’s fast, it’s furious, and it’s fun.

KML writers have a very specific skillset. They can work toward an assignment; they create sharp, high-quality comedy quickly, on a deadline; they can effectively incorporate notes; they collaborate well, and give and receive feedback with grace and compassion; and they bring their unique point of view to their work.

All of our shows are the product of the specific team that worked on it—and every member of that team contributes to its success!
