MANAGING DIRECTOR

Reports to: Millie Brooks, Executive Director

Company: Killing My Lobster (San Francisco’s Premier Sketch Comedy Troupe)

Hours: Part Time: 25 hours a week. (Approximately 100 hours a month)

Compensation: $20 per hour
 

Position Summary

Killing My Lobster, San Francisco’s premier sketch comedy troupe, seeks a reliable, detail oriented, independent thinker to support the Executive Director and other KML staff with the general operations needs of a fast paced, rapidly expanding comedy and nonprofit performing arts organization. Candidates should exhibit a positive attitude and a diverse skillset including strategic thinking and problem solving; as well as a collaborative work ethic, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Ideal candidates will have experience in nonprofit theatre management

  • Flexible work week, but must be able to commit to 20 hours in-house between Monday - Thursday.

  • Must attend all Operations Meetings on Tuesdays 11:00am-12:00pm

  • Computer proficiency, preferably with Mac devices, including the Office suite and Google platforms

  • An effective communicator, both written and oral

  • Dedicated team player with an independent and creative attitude

  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail oriented, ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines

  • Community focused and willing to interact with our artistic teams and audiences.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operations

    • Oversee office technical systems and general management, including office supply

    • Oversee Administrative Assistant on a weekly basis

    • Maintain and enforce rules, regulations and procedures to ensure successful implementation and adherence on a day-to-day operations scale as well as a production scale.

    • Manage the space and facility needs, and operational requests and requirements

    • Maintain and oversee all calendars, including deadlines, vacation times, meetings, and facility usage

  • Accounting

    • Work directly with the Executive Director and accountant/bookkeeper to develop budgets and ensure overall financial discipline

    • Assist the Executive Director with the day-to-day financial administration. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable for bookkeeper; conduct deposits.

    • Oversee receipts for donations and issue thank you letters to donors

  • Grants Management and Fundraising Development

    • Maintain and manage the grants calendar, prospects list and grant narrative templates

    • Identify new funding opportunities for the company.

    • Oversee all Donor databases and CRM systems that facilitate donor cultivation.

    • Support all Fundraising efforts led by the Company.

    • In collaboration with the staff lead the preparation and submission of proposals and reports

    • Maintain hard and electronic copies of grant files/history/databases/receivables and other files as necessary

  • Human Resources

    • Work with Executive Director to ensure effective and appropriate HR procedures

    • Manage the execution of all contracts for each production with supervision from the Executive Director

  • Patron Services/Ticketing

    • Manage ticket sales for performances and special events

    • Manage promotions and discounts

    • Data tracking and reporting

  • Programming

    • Work with staff to create and plan logistics for all public programs, performances and events

  • Marketing

    • Under the direction of KML’s Artistic Director, assist with social media, promotional content, and online campaigns

    • Lead all web maintenance and updates for the company.

  • Special Events

    • On-site management for day-of event logistics, including load-in, load-out and point of contact during entire event
