In Sketch Writing 1, you’ll learn the fundamentals of writing sketch comedy and techniques for developing your comedic voice. Experienced KML writers will instruct you, give detailed feedback, and individually tailor assignments to improve your writing. Whether you’re looking to work in sketch comedy professionally or just want to expand your writing skills, we’re here to help you make that happen.

At the end of the class, KML actors will perform a staged reading of students’ sketches in a theater. In addition, students will receive a free ticket to the KML show of the month.

Why should you take a class with Killing My Lobster? Because we practice what we preach: we write and perform new shows every month and teach the proven techniques we learn from that process. KML shows are written in less than two weeks, and we pride ourselves on writing quickly without sacrificing quality.

This class is open to writers of any experience level, and we foster an environment where all ideas and perspectives are welcome. Expect a supportive, encouraging, and hilarious atmosphere.

Our writing classes are designed to mimic the writing process for our shows. Your Sketch Writing 1 class will be broken up into two groups of eight, ensuring that you get the same time dedicated to your sketches as a regular writer around the KML writing table.

NOTE: Writing on your own and sharing your work is essential to our teaching process. You should expect to spend three hours per week writing outside of class. Your work will be read in class and you will receive constructive feedback on it (in a safe and friendly way).

The fine print: KML cannot issue refunds for classes, but we can offer course credit to be applied to another class within 6 months of the dropped class. In order for course credit to be reapplied you must notify Killing My Lobster at least 7 days before the start of the class that you are dropping. Transferring course credit only applies to the same course. Killing My Lobster reserves the right to refuse admission to any class at our discretion.
