I like that it was mostly focused on actually writing and getting feedback vs. a lot of lecture during class time.
— Molly S. - Writing 1 Student

All KML classes are structured to mirror our original process for creating live, fast, smart, fearless sketch comedy and will prepare you to think creatively, in a unique environment.

In Sketch Writing 1, you'll learn the fundamentals of writing sketch comedy and techniques for developing your comedic voice. Experienced KML writers will instruct you, give detailed feedback, and individually tailor assignments to improve your writing. We foster an environment where all ideas and perspectives are welcome. Expect a supportive, encouraging, and hilarious atmosphere.

At the end of the 7-week writing course, KML actors will perform a staged reading of students' sketches. In addition, students will receive a discount code for a $5 ticket to the current KML show.

Whether you're looking to work in sketch comedy professionally or just want to expand your writing skills, we're here to help you make that happen.

BEFORE YOU SIGN UP:

  • All students and instructors are required to provide proof of vaccination and 1 booster before the start of any in-person class.

  • Students should expect to spend 3-4 hours per week writing outside of class.

  • Attendance is a big part of our collaborative environment. Everyone's ideas matter and participation is the key to success. Please make sure that your schedule allows for in-class time and outside writing time.

  • KML cannot issue refunds for classes.

  • In the event of a class cancellation for any reason, course credit will be reapplied to another class of your choosing, with no time limitation.

  • In the event a student has to drop a class, KML can transfer course credit to another class within 6 months of the dropped class. In order for the course credit to be reapplied, you must notify KML at least 7 days prior to the first day of the class for which you originally signed up.

  • Transferring class credit will not be honored after the class has already started.

  • If a student misses two or more classes, they are automatically dropped from that session. The student is welcome to enroll in future classes, but their enrollment in the previous session will not rollover into the next session and the student will be expected to pay for the new session in full.

  • All students are expected to attend the final class read.

I enjoyed the individual feedback I received from the instructors on each sketch and strengthening my writing skill in general. It was fun to do table reads during class and to be able to hear a variety of writing styles and feedback.
